The Choir

This is a small, amateur choir of mixed voices (currently 12 members) which sings at morning and evening services every Sunday throughout the year. There are also special choral services to mark the major Festivals in the Church's calendar. We rehearse every Friday evening from 6.15pm until around 7.30pm and for half an hour before evening services. Our musical repertoire is growing. It ranges from Taize to Tchaikovsky, ancient to modern, and includes anthems, songs and settings of the canticles and the communion service.

Each member commits as far as he or she feels able to; for example, not everyone is in a position to come to both services on a Sunday regularly and this is respected.

We are always glad to welcome new members - an ability to read music is not needed but a sense of humour definitely is! If you enjoy singing and feel tempted to give it a go, just come along to a Friday rehearsal or have a word with one of us.

Please contact us via choir@aswht.org

The Orchestra

The Orchestra plays in church once a month at the Celebration Communion.  It accompanies the hymns and also plays a piece of music at the end of the service.  Here is what one of the players says about the group:

Once a month this group of amateur players meets to accompany the hymns at the Parish Church of All Saints . We also play a piece of popular, secular music at the end of the service and it has even been known for people to applaud !

Anyone of any age is welcome to join us and there is NO COMMITMENT ! It is good if you can make it and it is also fine if you can't...
We meet only on the first Sunday of each month for a brief run through, at 9.45 am. Some players are very inexperienced and a little nervous while others are more advanced. The Director however is a professional musician and his guidance is extremely valuable for all the musicians involved.  Most of our players are adults but we also have a number of younger musicians.

I am not a practising Christian but a committed agnostic : I can promise you that the reason I love to be involved with the church's musical life is the warmth, humour and friendliness of those who are there .
